Eco 4 Funding - What is it and is it for you?

Eco 4 Funding - What is it and is it for you?

ECO 4 is a UK government initiative designed to help low-income households improve their homes' energy efficiency.

Improving energy efficiency is essential for reducing household energy bills and meeting environmental goals.

The Eco 4 (Energy Company Obligation, Phase 4) was introduced to help low-income and vulnerable households make their homes more energy-efficient. Some energy suppliers are required to provide funding for energy-saving home improvements and it is these funds which help fund the scheme. Our job is to work with you to make the most of  ECO 4 in your home.

ECO 4 is important to you for several reasons:

  • Tackling Fuel Poverty Rising energy costs have left many households struggling to keep their homes warm. ECO 4 provides financial support for your essential home improvements, to help reduce heating bills and alleviate fuel poverty for qualifying families.
  • Improving Energy Efficiency If you live in an older home you may lack adequate insulation or rely on outdated heating systems. That means wasted energy and higher costs. ECO 4 helps upgrade some properties to more modern, energy-efficient standards, ensuring less heat is lost and your home stays a warm, comfortable place to live.
  • Reducing Carbon Emissions The UK has committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Improving the energy efficiency of homes is a key part of the strategy to reach this goal.
  • Better Living As well as saving you money on energy bills, the scheme improves your comfort and living conditions by creating warmer, healthier places for you and your family to live. Proper insulation and efficient heating systems will make a significant difference to your quality of life, particularly for those in cold or draughty homes.

What is ECO 4?

To claim ECO 4 full or part funding you will need to meet certain qualifying criteria. The main one is that you, or someone in your household, are claiming government-provided benefits. You may also need an energy survey and the details of your home may need to be considered. Sometimes the information available isn't exactly in what you would call plain English so we have an information page on our site, and we are always happy to chat about whether you are likely to qualify.

What is covered by ECO 4 funding?

The most common projects we undertake under ECO 4 are:

  • Free gas A-rated boilers – Energy-efficient systems to reduce heating costs.
  • Air source heat pumps – Eco-friendly heating systems that use energy from the air.
  • Cavity wall insulation – Minimising heat loss through walls.
  • Loft insulation – Preventing heat from escaping through the roof.
  • Replacement electric storage heaters – Modern, efficient alternatives for homes without gas heating.
  • Back boiler replacements – Upgrading outdated systems to newer, cost-effective options.

Who can access ECO 4 funds?

To claim ECO 4 full or part funding you will need to meet certain qualifying criteria. The main one is that you, or someone in your household, are claiming government-provided benefits. You may also need an energy survey and the details of your home may need to be considered. The improvement projects are unique to each home and based on an assessment of its energy performance and needs. The funding is often available to make improvements to your home either completely free of charge or at a significantly subsidised cost, making it accessible for those who need it most.

Sadly, sometimes the information available isn't exactly in what you would call plain English and this is only a quick, general, overview, so we can't cover every eventuality here. We have plenty of information on our site though, and most importantly we are always happy to chat about whether you are likely to qualify and what happens next in plain language.

We want ECO 4 funds to reach those who need them most, so get in touch and let's see how we can help you.
